低山地の崖面や岩上、朽木上などに発生するやわらかくてむくむくした苔

イクビゴケ・・・イノシシ顔
本州から琉球に、朝鮮・中国などに分布するわかりやすい苔。猪の首を連想させるためイクビゴケという

スギゴケ・・・日本のイメージ
日本では比較的海抜の高い場所に見られる。日本庭園などではもっともよく使われる主要な苔。山の急斜面の岩盤の多いところなどにもみられる大型の種類

トウカイモウセンゴケ・・・ファンキー
葉から粘液を出して虫を捕まえ、消化酵素を分泌する食虫植物。
葉の色は鮮やかな紅色であることが多いが、日陰に生育している場合には緑色の場合も。

フデゴケ・・・不機嫌
筆に似ているためフデゴケという。夏の暑さに強く、乾燥や日照りにも強い。表面をなでると、葉が茎から外れ、ピョンピョンと四方八方へと飛び、散った先で新しい群落を作る。

ヒメジョウゴゴケ・・・菌類なので顔が違う
日当たりのよい石や土の上に生える。コケという名前が付いているが地衣類なので苔ではない。住宅のまわりなどでみつかることもある。
